What can I do during AEP?
From October 15 to December 7, you can make coverage changes like:
- Join a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan if you’re currently enrolled in Original Medicare Part A and Part B.
- Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.
- Join a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or change plans.
- Leave a Medicare Advantage plan to go back to Original Medicare
Coverage changes you make during AEP will take effect on January 1 of the following year.
How do I choose the right coverage?
During the Annual Enrollment Period, consider what coverage will best serve your needs:
- People on Original Medicare often enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to cover their medications and a Medigap (also called Medicare Supplement) plan to help with out-of-pocket costs.
- Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans from private insurance carriers match the coverage from Original Medicare and may offer a variety of additional benefits. To get the most out of your coverage on a Medicare Advantage plan, you’ll need to visit doctors and pharmacies that are in your network.
Plans may go through changes every year. Review your existing coverage and check whether you have better options available.
